Favorite Writing Platforms

What is your preferred platform to write?

I like to write with novlr.org - owned and operated by Kim and Thomas from England.

It’s a browser based writing interface to write and store your work.

It’s clean and well built ‘software’ for all your writing needs.

A few key features:

  • Constant saving
  • Works offline and online
  • Focus mode
  • 100% secure - never lose your words
  • Access from any device
  • Import from .txt .rtf .docx .odt
  • Publish to ebook
  • Sync to Google Drive
  • Sync to Dropbox

In addition, you can create chapters and scenes. You can make notes, too.

For myself, I sync to Dropbox and have it set for once a week backups.

You can write online and offline.

When you’re offline, your work is saved in your browser cache until you get connected again.

Thus, you can log into your account from any device, from ANYWHERE in the world with an internet connection and a functioning browser.

It’s $100/year to ‘subscribe’ and to me it is totally worth the price.

Some of you may be saying, “But what about writing with Microsoft Word or Scrivener?”

Good and fair question!

I have used both in my writing days and I prefer novlr. I can log into any system, anywhere and write when I wish.

Word is okay but it lacks this functionality AND its organizational features are, well, non-existent. You cannot break your work up into chapters. Word is one long scroll of text, really. This is extremely unhelpful for me.

Now, Scrivener is good. It has the chapter and scene capability that is key for us authors. However, it is a standalone software install that was written by software designers : and the interface is a bit clunky and takes some time to navigate and learn. I want to write, not figure out the workings of learning curve software. Not to dump on Scrivener, it gets the job done. I prefer the superior options that Novlr gives me. I will say this, though, Scrivener has a really good scriptwriting mode and formatter for all of you script writers out there.

Novlr is written by programmers that are also WRITERS.

How cool is that? AND they have a great chat feature wherein you can ask questions if you have an issue with any feature! Response time is a 24-hour window but they’ve always been fairly quick when answering the few questions I had.

Good customer service is important to me. It’s one of the features that had me sold on the product.

I’m not an affiliate (at the moment, anyway) and I am endorsing Novlr out of admiration and love for the ‘software’.

You can sign up and try it FREE for 14 days and no credit card is required to do so.

Give it a try and let me know what you think! I’ll do my best to answer any serious questions you have.
